Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC)
Defence personnel have a reason to rejoice during this year’s Independence Day celebrations with the govt on Thursday announcing the implementation of the much-awaited Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC) report that envisages a 21 per cent hike in salaries.
Yet, the announcement was met with guarded reactions from the Armed Forces personnel, as the government had not conceded a demand from them for an across-the-board 40 per cent hike.
The Central Cabinet decision was announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi in New Dehi, pointing out the government had modified some of the original recommendations of the Justice B N Sri Krishna-led Commission, including an increase in the allowances for the personnel below officer rank (PBOR) from the armed forces.
The government is, however, yet to make public the amended report of the CPC, which is expected to come out sometime early next week.
Among the proposals approved by the Cabinet for the armed forces were the introduction of the Military Service Pay (MSP) for the personnel, under which officers from Lieutenant to Brigadiers in the Army and their equivalents in the Navy and Air Force would received Rs 6,000 as MSP per month.
The PBORs on the other hand would get a MSP of Rs 2,000, which is the amount approved by the Cabinet after amending the CPC recommendation that envisaged a MSP of Rs 1,000.
All the proposals approved by the Cabinet will come into retrospective effect from 1st January, 2006.
The transport allowance in other cities has been raised from Rs 300 per month to Rs 400.
The government has also removed campus restrictions for grant of transport allowance to government employees.
For the benefit of defence personnel, the government has increased the rate of Military Service Pay (MSP) to Rs 2,000 per month from Rs 1,000 suggested by the Pay Commission.
Pursuant to revision of the allowances, the officers of the defence forces would get an MSP of Rs 6,000 per month over their regular pay.
